The youngest winner ever of the BBC Young Musician of
the Year at the age of 12, and now a BBC New Generation
artist, at only 18 Peter became co-principal of the London
Symphony Orchestra under Gergev and soon to be under
Sir Simon Rattle. He is now intent on carving out a career
for himself as a soloist and recitalist. His programme
offers a wide selection of music that demonstrates the
virtuosiy and range of music that the trombone can play.
Peter has played with numerous orchestras as a soloist
including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC National
Orchestra of Wales and he has given recitals in Wigmore
Hall, the Sage, Bridgewater Hall, Cadogan Hall and Proms
in the Park, in Germany and touring in Australia.
He was brought up in Lancashire and learnt his skills
initially playing in the local brass bands. It is hoped that
many of the brass players in this area will take advantage
of the possibility of hearing a unique young master of the
trombone who is passionate about pushing the boundaries
of his instrument.
Please Note: Due to a misunderstanding the programme as originally advertised in our brochure was not the intended one and has been now completely revised.
On Saturday 4th February Peter and Robert will hold a workshop in the church from 3 to 5.30pm for anyone interested and it is hoped that as many brass players as possible will take advantage of learning from a trombonist, (youngest BBC Young Musician winner at the age of 12, and at 18 made co-principal trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra under Gergiev and Rattle), whose playing is steadily extending the limits and possibilities of his instrument. Brass band groups and individuals will be playing. The agenda for this has yet to be finalised so further information will be annunced in due course.
