Founded in Berlin in 2019, the Leonkoro ('Lionheart' in Esperanto) garnered many prizes in 2022 including the Jurgen Ponto Foundation Music Prize, 1st prize (and 9 out of 12 special prizes) in the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition and 1st prize in the Bordeaux String Quartet Competition. In May they were appointed as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists and after a year of observation of their concerts by distinguished musicians they were awarded the prestigious MERITO String Quartet Award resulting in support over 4 years, including a composition commission. This year they begin a 3 year residency in Leeds.

They appear tonight as part of a tour resulting from their Wigmore Hall Competition award.
