Richard Uttley makes a welcome return to Kelso with his recent duo partner Ben Goldscheider. Richard studied at the Junior School of the Royal Northern College of Music, at Cambridge University (where he gained a Double First in Music) and then at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) with Martin Roscoe. Since then he has released several solo recordings and has performed as recitalist and concerto soloist at many prestigious venues in Britain, Europe, Asia and North and South Americas. A passionate exponent of new music, he will be performing one of his compositions today. A committed teacher, he works at the Royal College of Music, the GSMD, City University London and the Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Ben Goldscheider first came to public attention through the 2016 BBC Young Musician Competition and has since gone on to become a YCAT Artist and has completed his studies with honours at the Barenboim Said Academy in Berlin. A member of the Pierre Boulez Ensemble, he is also Principal Horn in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. He has recently released a recording of 20th Century concertos and an album 'Legacy – a Tribute to Dennis Brain'

“evangelical enthusiasm......assiduous clarity......lyrical poise... a brilliant piano recital”
Neil Fisher: The Times
“Debut answers the necessary question about what separates Ben Goldscheider from the ranks of well-qualified horn players. He is a a young man with a timeless gift”
Voix des Arts 'Recording of the Month' January 2018
