Scottish cellist Hugh Mackay studied at St Marys Music School in Edinburgh before moving to the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) where he is a recipient of many awards and is supported by numerous trusts. He recently made his concerto debut with the Bremer Philharmoniker and has collaborated with Lawrence Power in his Wigmore Hall Residency as a member of Collegium. An avid chamber musician, he performed alongside fellow emerging artists at the Doric Quartet's 'Mendelssohn on Mull Festival'.
Chinese pianist Junyan Chen studied at the RAM and has performed in prestigious venues in Britain and Asia. As a concerto soloist she performed Rachmaninov 4th Piano Concerto with the RAM Symphony Orchestra under Edward Gardner. A keen performer of contemporary music, she recently worked with Hans Abrahamsen on his Piano Concerto with the Manson Ensemble. She has also performed two pieces by Eleanor Alberga at her 2022 'Arcadia Festival'. Her debut solo album 'It's Time' was recorded at the RAM and released in 2022 by Linn Records.
Hugh and Junyan have performed together for over 6 years, and early in their partnership in 2019 won 1st prize in the May Mukle Competition.
